Please note that, if you’ve donated at a prior function or fundraiser, the total amount of your contributions to one cndidate can not exceed $1,200. Under the Contribution Rebate Program, contributors can receive a rebate from the City of Toronto for contributions made to councillor candidates in an election. There are application rules and procedures that must be followed by the candidate and contributor in order for the City to pay a rebate.
These rules are found in the rebate by-law.

The list below shows examples of  contributions and the rebate given for each donation:

  • With a contribution of $250, the rebate is $187.50
  • With a contribution of $500, the rebate is $325
  • With a contribution of $750, the rebate is $450
  • With a contribution of $1200, the rebate is $641.66

The rebate payment is based on the following formula:

  • total contribution less than $25: no rebate
  • total contribution between $25 and $300:
    total contribution amount x 75% (example: $200 x 75% = $150 rebate)
  • total contribution over $300 but less than $1,000:
    total contribution amount – $300 x 50% + $225 (example: $650 – $300 = $350 x 50% = $175 + $225 = $400 rebate)
  • total contribution over $1,000 up to $1,200:
    total contribution amount – $1,000 x 33 1/3% + $575 (example: $1,200 – $1,000 = $200 x 33 1/3% = $66.66 + $575 = $641.66 rebate)
